An aberration, though not specifically a science word, means the act of departing from a normal or usual course. In astronomy, an aberration describes the apparent displacement of a heavenly body owing to the motion of the earth in its orbit. In optics, it refers to any disturbance of the rays of a pencil of light that causes an image to become unclear and out of focus.
